An astonishing result from the beginning

We can already conclude that the results are amazing. The joint efforts of KRAS Recycling, KIVO and our local Kosovar partners to build a state of the art recycling plant in a short period of time and to implement a process that is completely new for a country like Kosovo were fully rewarded.

The focus of REKS

REKS LLC mainly focuses on the recycling of LDPE and LLDPE films. The production line is specially equipped to also process large quantities of stretch film.

By manually separating unprinted transparent LDPE films without labels, stretch films, lightly printed films and heavily printed/coloured films, REKS is able to produce the highest possible qualities of transparent LDPE and LLDPE recycled raw materials from Post Consumer Recycled content (PCR).

Excellent quality (PCR)

The excellent quality makes it possible to achieve fully circular flows (closed loops) through alliances with supermarkets and retailers, recyclers (such as KRAS), plastic producers (including ourselves) and the packaging industry. For example, shrink films, stretch films and collection bags that are collected by KRAS after being used by retailers and distribution centers, are then sorted and processed into new raw materials by REKS and then re-used by KIVO and partners in the production of new shrink films, stretch films and collection bags.

Processing different waste streams

REKS processes waste flows from Europe and the Balkan region. The current capacity is 10,000 tons per year with the aim of doubling this by the end of 2020. Previously these waste flows were shipped in huge quantities from Europe to Asia, or were processed into lower quality (less homogeneous) regranulate within Europe. REKS now offers an answer to the increased export problems and the increasing need for high-quality plastic packaging with recycled content with this capacity. The plant meets all the high European requirements for e.g. water management, energy management, occupational health and safety requirements, REACH and processing of residual waste. Processes to make the factory EuCertPlast certified have therefore been set in motion.
