Environmental Obligations
Innovation for sustainability and Environment

In common with all other sectors of the chemicals industry, Kivo is highly aware of its environmental obligations, and is now able to recover 100% of its own production waste and reprocess it. It should be remembered though that the basic raw material polyethylene is an organic product; it is manufactured from petroleum and is therefore not damaging to the environment.

The latest developments in recycling mean that as long as polyethylene waste is collected in the right way, it can be completely re-used as a basic raw material. Polyethylene waste is increasingly used as a high-quality incinerator fuel. Kivo is always first in following the environmental agreements like: Integrale Milieutaakstelling, Bedrijfsmilieuplan, Elektronisch Milieujaarverslag, Meerjaren Afspraken Energie, Energie Besparingsplan, Energie Consumptieanalyse, Energiezuinige Productontwikkeling, Energiezorgsysteem en Besluit Beheer Verpakkingen.

Reach

First in packaging, first in quality

As of June 1st 2007 the European Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Autorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force. It’s aim is to complete existing information on chemical substances in order to properly control their impact on human health and the environment. REACH sets a new requirement standard towards manufacturers, importers and downstreamuser of substances on their own, or in prepa-rations which will also demand a more intensified communication between the user and the supplier of such substances. As supplier we have the obligation to provide our customers information if our products contain substances of very high concern (SVHC) listed in the candidate list of ECHA (European Chemical Agency) and present in a concentration above 0,1%.

Kivo is a downstreamuser and has the knowledge about the requirements that the REACH Regulation will impose on the products we supply. Kivo has had contacts with all suppliers to discuss REACH issues but we can not give a guarantee that all single substances are preregistered by our suppliers or their upstream suppliers. Almost all our suppliers have confirmed that the products they supply are free from SVHC and the substances used in these products are preregistered. We have no negative feedback of our suppliers. We expect that the few remaining suppliers will confirm this too.

Packaging Tax
Are you obliged to pay taxes on packaging ?

From January 1, 2008, the packaging tax takes effect. Purpose of the tax is to contribute to reducing the amount of packaging and packaging materials with a shift to a less harmful impact on the environment. To reduce the number of taxpayers is an exemption for businesses that included less than 50,000 kg in the Dutch market put. Taxpayers are defined as the manufacturer or importer. The packaging ensures that the tax levy to business customers, the tax is included. In practice, producers and importers responsible for all costs associated with the separate collection and subsequent separation of the packaging that households end up.

The responsibility of collection and remittance of the tax will lie entirely with the entrepreneurs. The Tax Pack is based on a broad basis, as far as possible with all packages of all types of products in the charge would be involved. This also means that all business sectors with the consequences of the charge face. Not only the packaging of the end-consumer, but also commercial packaging.
